An echocardiogram (echo) is a graphical representation of the movement of the heart. During the echo test, ultrasound (high-frequency sound waves) from the portable wand on the chest provides images of the heart valves and chambers and helps the sonographer. Echo is usually combined with ultrasound Doppler and color Doppler to assess the blood flow through the heart valve and evaluate the pumping effect.
Ultrasound imaging, also called ultrasound scanning or sonography, involves exposing part of the body to high-frequency sound waves to produce pictures of the inside of the body. Ultrasound exams do not use ionizing radiation (as used in x-rays). Because ultrasound images are captured in real-time, they can show the structure and movement of the body's internal organs, as well as blood flowing through blood vessels
Computed Tomography (CT) can be used to help diagnose, and plan the treatment, for a range of medical conditions. Through its primary use as a means to build up a detailed internal anatomical structure of the area of the body under investigation the range of disorders that Computed Tomography can be used to help treat is extensive.
Although normally used in conjunction with full body scans, CT is important in the diagnosis of brain tumours, as well as cancers of the body which range include; abdominal cancer (liver, spleen, kidney etc), chest cancers (heart, lung cancer etc), pelvic cancer and cancer of the spleen.
